Colony Wars (8/19/07): From 5 to 1; CARNAGE Firsts

The lone CARNAGE mark

Last Sunday's Colony Wars proved to be one of the most trying times for CARNAGE.

With 10 factions waging war and simultaneously attacking all 5 colonies, it took quite an effort to mobilize everyone despite the anxiety slowly creeping in. Despite the pressure of it all, everyone exerted the best team effort to aid each other while defending territories. Veteran Stances acquired by Yakisoba likewise contributed to the pressure of defending.

Holding up to such odds was indeed an exprience for CARNAGE. With only 1 colony on the map, the group's collective spirit will definitely make a comeback for another round of conquests and battles.

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.
- Eleanore Roosevelt

In other news, CARNAGE is proud to announce two things:

One: The first Grandice RNPC in all Cervantes was recently acquired by Quicky!

Two: Estradz moves a step up to Veteran Status!

Congratulations are in order, methinks. ^0^V

CARNAGE Faction-wide events on a roll

Updates at last! Just what has CARNAGE been up to? Read more to find out!

100M Vis, anyone?

In a sudden streak of generosity, CARNAGE Faction member Cz°Overdose organized an in-game event for everyone in the group last Friday, August 10. Called the Get me, I am Lost! game, the main objective of this contest was to escort Ramiro (Cz°Overdose) from El Tierra Blanco/Katovic Snowfield all the way to the Prison de Joaquin Waypoint. No other character except the Scout was allowed to escort Ramiro to the said point in the map.

The game mechanics also explicitly stressed a no-warp policy in moving to and fro maps. PK between players were not allowed, although PKing Ramiro was consented in order to make the game more fun and to provide an opportunity for steals.

Looking at the difficulty of such activity, (considering the fact that the maps called for high level monsters against a level 16 RNPC Ramiro), what's in it for those who joined? Millions of Vis, of course!

Scouts meet up in Prison de Joaquin.

The contest was divided in 3 rounds in order to give everyone a fighting chance at the big prizes. And so, everyone converged at the Prison de Joaquin Waypoint Channel 3 to talk about concerns or questions about the event mechanics. Quite a handful of scouts dressed in various suit of costumes more or less determined the levels they were in. It was only a matter of time before Cz°Overdose announced the start of the game, and upon doing so, warped immediately to the Katovic Snowfield to await the rescuers.

Since warping was prohibited, everyone took a long walk to the said area, dodging monsters and downing pots along the way. With the lag kicking in, it soon turned out to be an excruciatingly slow walk. Nevertheless, the first people who were quick on their feet soon arrived.

Dodging Arctic monsters in Katovic Snowfield.

Seighart and Veracruz were one of the firsts to arrive, thus they were the ones who had to deal with the first hand onslaught of the Arctic Bear and wolves. Those who were quick to revive Ramiro were soon knocked off by the approaching mobs.

For a while it seemed that the flurry of those being revived and those who died seemed endless, but Estradz and Seighart finally got the hang of it. They took turns resurrecting the others, all while effectively luring the mobs away from Ramiro. Everyone seemed to have gotten the trick to it and were soon working in sync.

The chase goes on...

Overseer turned out to be the lucky winner of the first round, after being the one to revive Ramiro inches before the finish line was crossed. He won for himself 100 million Vis for this uncanny stroke of luck.

And of course being the Faction Leader he did gave out a few of his earnings to those who badgered for tips. Hehe.

The second round took quite some time to finish, with less people joining in for another turn. But the experience from the first round strengthened everyone's resolve to stick together and put teamwork to practice in seeing through the difficult ordeal.

By the time the third and final round commenced, it was uncertain if some of the guys wanted to continue given the fact that the wait at Katovic Snowfield was quite long. However, a few enterprising CARNAGE members persisted to go through with the difficult task.

We have a winner!

The contest itself was not about the millions of Vis at stake, but rather, this became a test on how CARNAGE members thought of ways to go around a challenge, work together and accomplish a certain task using both wit and skill.

Here are the list of winners for the competition:

1st - Overseer (100 million Vis)
2nd - DevilZz (50 million Vis)
3rd - Yoyi (20 million Vis)

Special prizes:

Estradz
Pharina
wildarms

*Cz°Overdose attests that he did not employ the use of bots to come up with this extraordinary amount of Vis; this was accomplished through months of legitimate Vis farming.

Colony Wars (8/12/07): The quick and the dead

As last week's Colony Wars proved to be a successful and noteworthy event for everyone in CARNAGE, last Sunday's war was not an exception. With the expected comeback of the Yakisoba Faction in the war zone, 50 or so families grew anxious and excited at the same time in the impending defense of the 6 CARNAGE Colonies.

Minutes before the start of the official war, Overseer has instructed all squad leaders regarding save points and preliminary tactics. Some of the squad members noted the presence of several Factions in the surrounds of the Colonies, prompting Overseer to tell everyone to check the perimeters for any signs of hostilities.

At the start of the war, the Colony in Rion Praire was the first to be attacked by Yakisoba. Soon, the Colonies in El Canon de Diabolica and King's Garden were under siege as well from Yakisoba-allied factions.

The fight in King's Garden, for one, was a long and arduous. Norgard's forces overwhelmed the entire Colony, with most of the CARNAGE members dying by the score. The Colony's resistance was also giving away, prompting an announcement by Seighart to pull out in Diabolica to help reinforce the King's Garden Colony. It was at this time when both areas were under heavy attack from opposing Factions.

Norgard forces overwhelm King's Garden Colony.

The arrival of the CARNAGE contingent troops and the decimation of the Norgard forces safeguarded the said Colony. But as fate would have it, Yakisoba once again focused their attention on Rion, raining the Colony with attacks from Valkyries and Golden Spiders.

When the rescue teams arrived, everyone was alerted of the attacks on King's Garden. It was then that everyone concluded that this was a cleverly-thought of strategy by Yakisoba and its allies.

Dominion lends a helping hand.

But then again, CARNAGE's friends from Dominion lent their support in Rion as both teams ploughed through the Yakisoba ranks, thus reclaiming the Colony.

This seemingly endless game of attack-reclaim-attack lasted all throughout the 2-hour war. Squads responded quickly to their leaders' summons, while CARNAGE allies and friends helped in fortifying both offensive and defensive ranks from 7 Factions waging war against us. Even until the last minutes, these opposing groups continued to attack our Colonies, albeit futile.

Reclaiming the colony at Hermanas.

The end of the war saw the loss of the Rion Praire Colony, but we nonetheless successfully defended all strongholds, and we wouldn't have come this far without our friends (you know who you are!).

The CARNAGE mark on the New World map.

Congratulations to everyone who participated in the Colony Wars event! Kudos to CARNAGE for a battle well fought!

See you in the New World!

CARNAGE grabs 4 colonies in 1st official Colony Wars

Last Sunday, July 29, marked the start of the official Colony Wars in-game event. No ad-hoc tests, no impromptu annoucements whatsoever...this was THE real thing.

7PM: Overseer was not to be found online, so Estradz took the helm and issued instructions to save warp points in El Lago de Tres Hermanas, El Tejado Verde and Porto Bello's Deserted Quay. with only 37 families online, there was no time to spare for idle banter.

7:30PM: Estradz once again called for a general meet-up in Port of Coimbra Ch. 1 near Jose Cortasar (Coimbra Nimrod Bridge).

7:55PM: All CARNAGE troops were ordered to warp to El Lago Celeste.

Within minutes after the Colony Wars started, the first Declaration of War announcements were soon broadcasted to the whole GE-world in Cervantes. And it was also at this time when the Yakisoba Faction made its first Colony conquest in Katovic Snowfield.

Seighart, one of the first families to arrive in El Tejado Verde reported sightings of less than five families lingering in the area. This prompted Estradz to order everyone to move to El Tejado immediately. At this time, Overseer finally makes an appearance, and further stressed the need for everyone to go to the said area in order to prevent any other Faction from laying siege on our intended target.

In the middle of everyone's haste to conquer El Tejado, I was just surprised to find an announcement that the said Colony was already seized by the LunaNoire Faction. This prompted Overseer to declare war on the said group in order to reclaim the Colony. With everyone's cooperation and immediate attention, the guys were able to pwn LunaNoire, thus declaring El Tejado Verde as the first CARNAGE territory.

Next in line was the Colony in El Lago de Tres Hermanas, where all Scouts were ordered to equip daggers for a swift attack on the Colony tower. Not long, the said territory fell into CARNAGE hands.

The next Colony to be targeted was Porto Bello's Deserted Quay, and Overseer once again mobilized everyone to move to the area immediately. Estradz, who was one of the first to arrive, noted the presence of the Norgard Faction, an ally of Yakisoba. Seeing the possible consequences that lay ahead, Estradz asked if it was practical for us to declare war on Norgard. However, such notice was already too late as Overseer already declared war on the said group.

Right in the middle of this conversation, everyone tuned in to the faction chat was alerted of the attacks placed upon our Colony in El Tejado. While everyone suddenly came to a panic, Overseer issued orders to split the troops in defending the El Tejado and in laying siege on Quay.

It turned out that there was nothing to be worried about as El Tejado was cleared off enemy Factions by the defending troops. Now, all eyes were firmly set on the Porto Bello Quay Colony.

A lot of Factions have clearly taken a stand in joining the war as the guys saw quite a handful of new groups going aggressive in claiming Colonies of their own. And of course, we were not the only ones who had our sights set on the Quay Colony. Overseer saw the impending need for an immediate conquest, which prompted him to firmly instruct everyone to forego squadding and focus all means of firepower on breaking the Colony tower.

Norgard Faction made an attempt to join in the siege, but again, Overseer thwarted their usurping plans by having Estradz block such efforts. It was then announced that our Colony in El Tejado Verde was under attack once again, prompting more worried comments from the others. In order to resolve the tension, Overseer sent some troops to secure the defense of the said Colony, while everyone turned their focus on breaking the Quay Colony tower.

The Faction's resident "scout", Seighart, was already on the move toward Pradera de Ceniza, which was reportedly next in line. He however noted the overwhelming presence of the CloudNine Faction in the area, thus a change in plans. Then, in a sudden streak of brashness, everyone moved to Rion Praire to attempt a kill steal (KS) on the said Colony (as a rule, the Faction who makes the last hit on the tower are the ones accorded with the Colony ownership). But then again, the attack on our territories changed the course of plans once again.

Overseer sends a few "scouts" once more in order to look for other conquests. This time around, the King's Garden was next in the CARNAGE list. As the said area was occupied by XeNaTioN Faction, it was inevitable that Overseer declared war on the group in order to seize the Colony. CARNAGE took on a hostile takeover of King's Garden, decimating XeNaTioN members and attacking the tower at the same time.

With only a few minutes left before the war ends, Overseer gave his final instruction of foregoing all further territorial conquests and an all-out defense of all CARNAGE Colonies. After the dust has settled, everyone raised their fists high for a successful conquest of territories and victory over all war declarations.

The end of the first official Colony Wars gave 34% HP boost to all CARNAGE members for grabbing 4 Colonies: El Lago de Tres Hermanas, El Tejado Verde, Porto Bello's Deserted Quay and King's Garden.
